"Having children changes everything": Jennifer Lawrence opens up about how motherhood changed her life

Jennifer Lawrence opened up about her motherhood and postpartum experience at the Cannes press conference, held on May 18. Lawrence attended the Cannes Film Festival with her husband, Cooke Maroney. She also walked alongside her co-star, Robert Pattinson, for the premiere of their movie, Die, My Love.

Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney have two children together. Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson is the father of a one-year-old daughter with Suki Waterhouse. Both couples are happily raising their families and enjoying parenthood.

During the press conference, Jennifer Lawrence talked about her experience with having children by adding:

"Having children changes everything. It changes your whole life. It's brutal and incredible. Not only do they go into every decision of if I'm working, where I'm working, when I'm working, but they've taught me… I didn't know that I could feel so much, and my job has a lot to do with emotions. And they've opened up the world to me."

She further continued:

"It's almost like feeling like a blister or something like that, so sensitive. They've changed my life, obviously, for the best. And they've changed me creatively."

The actress also joked that if someone wants to be a good actor, they should have children because it teaches them a lot.


Jennifer Lawrence opens up about postpartum struggles

Jennifer Lawrence’s new movie, Die, My Love, starring alongside Robert Pattinson, revolves around a mother who struggles with postpartum depression and begins to experience psychosis. During the press, Lawrence also opened up on her battle with postpartum by saying:

"Extreme anxiety and extreme depression. It is isolating no matter where you are. You feel like an alien."

Jennifer Lawrence welcomed her first baby, named Cy, in February 2022. Her second child was born in 2025.

Her co-star, Robert Pattinson, also added his own views on parenthood in the press by saying:

"I think, in the most unexpected ways, having a baby gives you the biggest trove of energy and inspiration afterward. It's a different kind of energy."

He further talked on the topic of mental health and postpartum by adding:

"When you're dealing with a partner who is dealing with postpartum or any kind of mental illness or mental health difficulties...trying to deal with her isolation and figure out where your heart is and what your role in the relationship is afterwards incredibly difficult."

Both Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson received support and praise on social media for honestly sharing their experiences with parenthood and postpartum struggles, and raising awareness about these important topics.


Die, My Love premiered at Cannes on May 17. As per IMDb, the movie is scheduled to release on June 6, 2025.
