HBO Max is preparing to expand into new European countries. Warner Bros. said several countries will include the streaming platform starting in January.

HBO Max has already established its viewing format in over 100 countries worldwide. These additional launches will help millions more viewers in Europe sign up for the platform. Warner Bros. Discovery aims to strengthen its position in the competitive streaming sector.

The sector plans to launch the streaming platform in Ireland and the United Kingdom in January, completing HBO Max’s European expansion. This phased approach helps the company establish a strong presence in each new market and allows millions more viewers in Europe to sign up for the platform.

The streaming service will bring its huge content library to these upcoming markets. Subscribers will have access to popular drama shows including IT: Welcome to Derry, The Pitt, House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, Industry, The White Lotus, and Euphoria.

Sports fans will also find strong reasons to subscribe. The platform will broadcast every competition from the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina next year. This marks the first time the Olympics will be available on HBO Max, and the coverage will be included for all subscribers across each plan at no additional cost. The service will also offer a sports add-on option for audiences seeking even more athletic content.

Strategic market entry and subscription plans

The United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany are particularly significant markets for the expansion. The streaming platform content has been available in these countries through a long-standing exclusive partnership with Comcast’s Sky.

The immediate launch will now allow Warner Bros. to provide more content. Discovery is set to establish a direct relationship with subscribers in these territories.

The platform will start with three service tiers in the new markets: Basic, Standard, and Premium plans, with the latter offering no ads. Every tier is designed to meet separate viewing needs and budget preferences. The sports add-on will provide more options for devoted fans.

JB Parrette, the CEO of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. and Discovery, has expressed enthusiasm about the expansion:

"We are thrilled to bring HBO Max and the stories that stick with you to new countries across Europe this January," he said.
"With our strongest lineup of U.S. and local HBO series yet, blockbuster local and international movies, and the Olympic Winter Games, it is the perfect time to make HBO Max available directly to subscribers."

The January launch marks a crucial moment for Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming aspirations in Europe.
