Philip Seymour Hoffman's son, Cooper Hoffman, is preparing to appear in the film adaptation of Stephen King's story, The Long Walk, which is set for release on September 12, 2025. This Hunger Games-like story is set in a dystopian United States where the participants need to keep walking until the last one remains.

Recently, Cooper was in an interview with GQ Magazine, where he mentioned that,

"He’s my favorite actor, but he’s also my dad. He’s also not here. A lot of people idolize their parents because they’re great parents. It’s a different thing to idolize your parent because you love their art. So as much as I would love him to be here and talk to him about acting, I also would be terrified to have him see my stuff and judge my stuff. Not that he would judge it, because he was a very empathetic person, and he would probably—hopefully—hold my hand through all of it."

After The Long Walk, Cooper Hoffman will appear in Maude Apatow's Poetic License, Gregg Araki's I Want Your Sex, and Luca Guadagnino's Artificial.

The 22-year-old actor made his debut with Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza in 2021. Paul Thomas Anderson and Philip Seymour Hoffman collaborated frequently and worked together on films including Hard Eight (1996), Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), Punch-Drunk Love (2002), and The Master (2012).

Licorice Pizza turned out to be one good start for Cooper Hoffman, as the film was nominated for three Oscars, though it didn't win any. It is about the relationship between a teen actor called Gary Valentine (Hoffman) and Alana Kane (Alana Haim). Interestingly, the former was based on Gary Goetzman, a former child actor who became a producer later in his career.

After Licorice Pizza, Cooper Hoffman starred in the Ethan Hawke-directed Wildcat (2023), where Maya Hawke was in the lead as novelist Flannery O'Connor and many characters from her stories. Cooper played a salesman called Manley Pointer, a character from Flannery O'Connor's short story titled Good Country People. It was met with a mild reception and holds a 59% score at the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

In his third film, Simon West's Old Guy (2024), he acted alongside the iconic Christoph Waltz, who plays Danny Dolinski in the film. Cooper plays a trainee assassin in the action comedy film, which was a critical disaster.

Cooper Hoffman's latest film, Saturday Night (2024), is based on the premiere of the long-running show Saturday Night Live and features several actors, including Willem Dafoe, J. K. Simmons, and more.

Throughout his career, Philip Seymour Hoffman appeared in several movies, and four of them led him to the Oscars' stage, the first of which came in 2006 with Capote. He won that one. For the other three Oscars, the late actor was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Charlie Wilson's War (2006), Doubt (2009), and The Master (2012).
