More details on Diane von Fürstenberg’s husband, Barry Diller’s coming out
Barry Diller spoke about his sexuality in his 2025 memoir. Barry revealed that he was sexually attracted to men.
“Yes, I also liked guys, but that was not a conflict with my love for Diane,” he announced.
He added:
“I wasn’t ever lying. I never pretended anything. I never hid. People in my social circle knew about my life both with men and with Diane. The only thing I didn’t do was make a declaration. I chose not to for a lot of complicated reasons.”
Barry shared that Diane von Fürstenberg was aware of his sexuality from the beginning; however, he didn't announce it because he feared that it would limit his chances of having a personal life.
He stated:
“While there have been a good many men in my life, there has only ever been one woman.”
Mr. Diller also described his relationship with Ms. Diane von Fürstenberg as “the miracle of my life,” even with all the “confusion and lots of speculation.”
Diane von Fürstenberg responded to Barry’s coming out, saying:
“Today, he opened to the world. To me, he opened 50 years ago."
She added:
"He's been private all his life, but not with me. So for me, it doesn't feel strange."
