50 Cent has been critical of Zohran Mamdani and his candidacy for New York City's mayoral seat. In June 2025, the rapper also questioned Mamdani on where he came from and his taxation policies, stating that he would be willing to pay Mamdani more than two hundred thousand dollars and buy him a one-way ticket out of New York City to get him out of the election race.

Now, Mamdani has clapped back at 50 Cent. He recently appeared in an exclusive interview with MSNBC's The Beat with Ari Melber show on November 4, 2025. He stated:

"He's a critic!. I didn't even know what my salary would be until I opened up Instagram and and I saw this thing which was like '50 Cent offers Mamdani X amount of money.' I was like its a very specific amount of money. I was like 'Oh My God."

Mamdani later directly addressed 50 Cent:

"You know what I would say to you? 50 if you are indeed watching or anyone else who's watching this show is I continue to think that having the top 1% of New York City who are making more than a million dollars a year having them pay 2 percent more for an economic agenda that would transform every New Yorker's life, including their own is something that is worthwhile."

Mamdani went on:

"And the reason I say including their own is when you see a city like ours that is underfunding its city agencies. That is pulling on the most basic things like library services and trash cans. Everybody feels the knock-on effects of that. And my job as someone who believes deeply in the public sector is to ensure we're delivering public excellence."

He concluded that he still listens to 50 Cent's track Many Men. Many Men is a song from 50 Cent's debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin'.

"And that means that every dollar that we raise, I wanna be able to prove to you that its every dollar that's being well spent. That's the relationship there. And I do have to say even though we have a disagreement on tax policy, every time I get a death threat, I still listen to 'Many Men.'"

50 Cent responds to Zohran Mamdani's interview

The rapper has responded to Zohran Mamdani's interview, stating in an Instagram post that Mamdani meant well, but he was going to run big money out of New York City. He said:

"I think his intentions are good, but his Tax plan is gonna run the big money out of the city and if he defunds the police they are gonna purge."

The rapper also took the opportunity to mention Shreveport, Louisiana, where he is apparently investing.

Later, after Zohran Mamdani won the election, he posted an AI-generated image of a gravestone with the carving "New York City RIP" and the year 2025, a clear reference to his election as Mayor of the City. The rapper also stated that he was done with New York.

Earlier, it was revealed by Ari Melber in an interview that 50 Cent had allegedly moved out of the city. The rapper is apparently also worried that Mamdani will defund the police. Mamdani, however, has only suggested the creation of a community safety department to deal with mental health crisis events and so on, and take off some responsibilities from the police.
