Karate Kid: Legends has been an epic addition to the hit franchise. And while we've loved seeing Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso back on screen, many fans have pointed out a few missing characters that were expected to be on screen.

If you watched Karate Kid: Legends and couldn’t help but notice, where was everyone from Cobra Kai? No Robby, no Miguel, no Hawk, nada. It’s like stepping into a dojo and finding the place empty. Fans were itching for those familiar faces, but the movie just… didn’t deliver. Well, it turns out it’s not some sneaky storytelling move or a dramatic feud behind the scenes. It’s all about the messy, tangled web of rights and studios.

Cobra Kai is under Netflix’s roof, while Karate Kid: Legends is backed by Sony. So even though Daniel and Mr. Han made their epic returns, the Cobra Kai crew had to stay on the sidelines.

Director Jonathan Entwistle explained this in an interview with Hollywood Reporter, as he said,

"We could use anything that’s in the movies. We could have used and touched on any concept that was in the original movies. So we could always use Daniel and Miyagi, but any elements that are Cobra Kai-specific are not a Columbia Pictures property."

Karate Kid: Legends isn’t just another sequel; it’s a powerful collision of legacy, discipline, and heart. Directed by Jonathan Entwistle, the martial arts drama breathes new life into the iconic franchise while honoring its roots. Ben Wang leads the story as a Chinese-American teen caught between cultures, fists, and philosophies, guided by none other than Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio- two senseis from very different worlds.

The official synopsis for the film reads,

“Driven by a desire to defend himself, Li embarks on a journey to enter the ultimate karate competition. Guided by the wisdom of his kung fu teacher, Mr. Han and the legendary Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso, Li merges their unique styles to prepare for an epic martial arts showdown.”

Critics have offered a warm reception so far. The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes sits at a strong 88%, thanks to the film’s delicate mix of nostalgia and modern storytelling. The chemistry between Wang and Chan adds layers of humor and depth, while macchio’s return offers fans a full-circle moment that feels earned, not forced.

The return of Jackie Chan is perhaps the heart of the project, along with Ralph Macchio's LaRusso, and everything else we have loved about the franchise. The film is expected to be a success, with projections aiming for a $30 million mark in its opening weekend.

Karate Kid: Legends is now in theaters.
