The Alabama-native was inducted into the Alabama Stage and Screen Hall of Fame in 2000. Polly has also acted in stage plays. These include the revivals of Arsenic and Old Lace, where she played Martha Brewster. She was nominated for a Tony Award for her role in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. In 2000, she also appeared in the revival of The Time of the Cuckoo.

Polly Holliday died on September 9 in Manhattan, at the age of 88.
