Apple Music announced Tyler, the Creator, as ‘Artist of the Year’ for 2025, and the internet had mixed reactions as some asked, "How much did he pay?”

Apple Music has crowned Tyler, the Creator, as the Artist of the Year, after a global tour, an album that is still on the Billboard 200, five Grammy nominations, and a feature film debut. Tyler has had a busy year, but this recognition comes from his world tour, "Chromakopia," and his ninth studio album, "Don't Tap the Glass."
Apple Music's global creative director, Zane Lowe, stated,
"Tyler continues to prove that anything is possible. His creativity has been incredible all year. His creative risk-taking is only matched by the care he takes to present it, and he inspires his peers and fans now, just as he will continue to inspire generations to come."
Tyler, the Creator himself, also addressed the honor,
"To everyone who listens to my music, thank you. I appreciate you so much. This year, for my career, was the biggest so far. To be this year’s Apple Music Artist of the Year, it’s sick. I appreciate the love. I appreciate the recognition. It means a lot to me, especially for the music and things that I make. Please keep supporting folks who are a bit out of the box for how they do things; it means a lot to us."
Internet reacts to Tyler, the Creator becoming Artist of the Year
The internet had mixed reactions to this news, as while Tyler, the Creator's hardcore fans thought he deserved the honors, others didn't seem to agree with the sentiment, stating that there were other, more deserving artists this year for the impact they had on music.
One fan expressed,
"Well deserved. Tyler’s consistency and creativity keep redefining the game, so this recognition finally catches up with his output."
While another defended him,
"For all the people saying "Who?" "Taylor had a better year." And "He flopped this year." Listen to the best song of all time "Fish" off his album "Goblin" and your life will change this song solos all your favorite artists discographies"
One user had a reasonable response to their opinion,
"we saw how fast his album that actually dropped this year vanished except for sugar on my tongue. Good song, good album, but he was drastically overshadowed by many others this year"
Another had a more aggressive reaction,
"Is this a joke, pls someone me that this is a fucking joke when Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Sabrina, Ariana and Tate launched amazing albums with great sucess and this flop launched a flop álbum that have ONLY 1 SONG who it’s famous bc of a TikTok trend 😭💔"
A user also stated their take,
"he did nothing revolutionary every other women deserved this"
The title was previously held by Billie Eilish in 2024, and in 2023, Taylor Swift took home the honor.
