British DJ and television presenter Tim Westwood has been charged with four counts of r*pe, nine counts of indecent assault, and two counts of s*xual assault, according to the Metropolitan Police’s statement to BBC News.

Westwood, who is 68 years old and was born on October 3, 1957, previously worked for the BBC for nearly two decades. According to Celebrity Net Worth, he has an estimated net worth of $8 million.

Tim Westwood has since denied the allegations brought forth by seven women spanning across decades, between 1983 and 2016. He is due to appear before the Westminster Magistrates' Court on November 10.

According to Lionel Idan, the Chief Crown Prosecutor’s statement to BBC News, there is “sufficient evidence” to bring the case to “trial.”

“Our prosecutors have established that… it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings. The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial,” Idan continued.
He added, "It is extremely important that there be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings."

Tim has been an influential hip-hop DJ in the UK and rose to fame as the voice of the BBC network’s Radio 1 rap shows. Later, he ran the weekday DriveTime show for the network’s syndicated Radio 1Xtra from 2009 to 2012. Later, Westwood also conducted the Saturday night rap show until his exit in 2013.

Tim Westwood was a pivotal figure in bringing American hip-hop to the UK, renowned for hosting freestyles, debuting new tracks, and conducting exclusive interviews with iconic artists such as Will Smith, Diddy, and Jay-Z. Eminem even teamed up with the Englishman for his freestyles.

Exploring the past accusations against Tim Westwood

BBC and The Guardian conducted a joint investigation into the famed DJ and his decade-long s*xual misconduct allegations in April 2022. Subsequently, BBC Three aired a 30-minute documentary titled Tim Westwood: Abuse of Power.

In it, multiple women accused Tim Westwood of s*xual assault, groping, and predatory behavior between 1992 and 2017. The accusers were all Black women who claimed that the alleged abuse occurred in their late teens or early 20s.

In February 2025, a report from an independent inquiry was released by investigator Gemma White KC. The inquiry included several complaints about his inappropriate workplace conduct, allegations involving minors, and indecent comments made about women’s bodies.

At the time, Tim Westwood denied the allegations and maintained he posed no threat to women, had no interest in minors, and did not exhibit predatory behavior.

BBC, too, responded to the accusations against their former employee and shared in a statement that they were “shocked” to learn about them, citing that they went against the network’s “strict codes of conduct.” The company’s Director General, Tim Davie, called the accusers’ accounts “appalling,” adding:

"I credit the BBC and Guardian teams for going after the story. I think that’s absolutely what we should be doing. I’ve seen no evidence of complaints. I’ve asked, and we looked at our records, and we’ve seen no evidence."

Meanwhile, the parent company of Capital Xtra, aka Global Radio, released a statement citing Tim Westwood had stepped down from his show, “until further notice.”
