Donald Trump responded to the news of Jimmy Kimmel’s show being canceled with a post on his Truth Social account. The post, uploaded on September 17 by Donald Trump, read:
"Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible."
Speaking on Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, Donald Trump wrote in the next statement:
"That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT"
The decision to end his show came after Kimmel made comments about Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead on September 10 at the University of Utah.
What did Jimmy Kimmel say about Charlie Kirk on his show?
During his show broadcast, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel said:
"The MAGA Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving on Friday."
He continued:
"The White House flew the flags at half-staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how hard the president is taking this."
Showing Trump's video, Kimmel added:
"Yes, he's at the fourth stage of grief. Construction. Demolition. Construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish."
Kimmel also uploaded the video on his YouTube channel titled "Trump Grieves By Talking About $200 Million Ballroom, MAGA Hits New Lows & Guillermo at the Emmys."
Soon after the broadcast, Nexstar Media announced the cancellation of the show through their press release, which read:
"Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXST), today announced that the company’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show. Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets."
Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, in another statement said:
"Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located"
The Jimmy Kimmel Show first aired in 2003.
