Sydney Sweeney’s highly anticipated biopic film is expected to hit the cinemas on November 7, 2025. The Euphoria actress will play Christy Martin, a professional boxer who rose to become America's most well-known female boxer in the 1990s.
During a recent panel at Pacific Design Center, Sydney Sweeney shared how the role taught her how to stand up for herself. She revealed that portraying the iconic athlete in the movie has taught her so many things about herself, both in her personal and professional life.
“It taught me a lot about myself, actually, throughout the entire process. She taught me how to stand up for myself more and feel stronger in my personal life and my work life.”
She added:
“We both fight our own fights in different types of rings and, yeah, check in on your friends and make sure they’re all okay.”

Christy is an upcoming biographical sports drama directed by David Michôd, who also wrote the movie alongside Mirrah Foulkes.

In an exclusive red carpet interview with E! at the Toronto International Film Festival, Sydney Sweeney spoke about the training she had to undergo to portray Christy’s character properly.
“I think it was probably one of my most amazing fun appearances. I got to eat everything that I wanted. I was a very happy person, and I became so strong. I felt so good. I mean, I just felt Christy’s power.”
She added that she enjoyed the whole experience and never saw it as difficult.
“I loved it. So, it just, it felt fun and exciting. I don't know if I was ever like ‘Oh my God, this is gruelling’ because it was just a good time.”
While speaking with Vanity Fair, Sydney Sweeney expressed her shock that the story of Christy Martin wasn't well-known. She added that it was a very inspiring story.
“I was blown away that her story wasn’t more known on a universal, global level because it’s just one of the most harrowing and inspiring women that I’ve ever met in my entire life.”
The movie also features other stars, such as Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, and Ethan Embry.
