Nicki Minaj recently appeared at the Turning Point summit in Arizona, USA, on December 21, 2025. During the event, the singer was asked by Erika Kirk what advice she has for young boys, stating that they should not follow the lead of California Governor Gavin Newsom:

"Don’t be Newscum. Young men, you have amazing role models like our handsome, dashing president, and you have amazing role models like the assassin JD Vance, our vice president. And when I say that..."

The singer fell silent after her slip-up of calling the vice president an assassin, before continuing after Erika Kirk told her she did not have to worry about the slip-up:

"For boys. Be boys. Be boys. Its okay. Be boys. There's nothing wrong with being a boy. How about that? How powerful is that? How profound is that? Boys will be boys. And there's nothing wrong with that."

Minaj's message quickly generated backlash on the internet and in news circles, with many finding fault with the framing of her statement and some pointing out nearly half of her fans came from trans and queer communities.

Following the start of the backlash against Minaj for the above-quoted statement, other netizens reacted to both the comment and the backlash, as exemplified by the tweets quoted below:

"How is this transphobic!"

One netizen reacted:

"OMG I thought there was a context, that she would never just say something like this, but your video literally proved me wrong. Because there's literally a homophobic and transphobic subtext on this. She even paused before cause she knew she was about to stab a lot of barbz."

Another netizen reacted:

"This isn’t any better… why would we want young boys to be like the president or vice president? make that make sense??"

One commenter stated:

"What she said in the beginning is true and I agree with her but that doesn't change that she is encouraging and hanging out with bigots fren."

An X user said:

"There’s nothing wrong with boys being boys…There’s nothing wrong with girls being girls…There’s nothing wrong with humans choosing which one they want to be either."

Another reactor interrogated:

"Telling males with dysphoria that they can just cure it by "being boys"? No actual help needed, just try harder to be a boy and poof your problems will be solved?"

More on Nicki Minaj's appearance on Turning Point

Nicki Minaj's appearance on Turning Point was a surprise. She walked hand in hand with Erika Kirk. Before she advised boys, Nicki Minaj talked about young women, stating:

"I don’t want what was done to little Black girls done to little white girls. I don’t want it done to any girls. I want all the little girls in the world to know that you are unique, you are beautiful, you are you, and you can compliment another girl."

The singer continued:

"You can compliment another woman and still know that you are epic and amazing. So that’s what I would say about for the girls. … I know my adults understand clearly where I’m going with that."

Nicki Minaj was also effusive in her support of President Donald Trump. Alongside calling him a role model for boys, Nicki Minaj said that she had respect and admiration for him and that the people in his administration made her proud.
