There are rumors that the Euphoria star will be playing the role of Princess Zelda in the upcoming Nintendo and Sony live-action adaptation of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda.

Hunter Schafer is well-known for her acting abilities, including the role she played as a transgender high school student in the teen drama series Euphoria. Fans have also readily agreed that choosing her for the role of Zelda would be great, as she physically resembles the iconic video game character. Hunter was last seen in the 2024 horror film Cuckoo.

In 2023, Schafer told Entertainment Tonight about the possibility of her playing the role of Zelda. She said,

''That would be so cool. I played that video game a bunch when I was a kid. That’s such a good game.''

While there is no official confirmation about the casting or that Hunter will play the role of Zelda,. Fans are also speculating who would play the role of Link, and some are suggesting Tom Holland for the role. However, reports suggest that the studio is looking for a younger actor to play the role of the young warrior, as per AfterBuzzTV.

While the studio has not announced an official release date, the movie is rumored to be released in March 2027. Schafer was in the news earlier this year after the new US passport listed her as male, even though she selected female while filling out the paperwork. As per BBC, she said this to her fans on TikTok:

''I was shocked. I just didn't think it was actually going to happen... I just feel like it's important to share that it's not just talk - that this is real and it's happening and no-one - no matter their circumstance, no matter how wealthy or white or pretty or whatever - is excluded.''

Fans are eager to see Schafer play Zelda for various reasons, including the striking resemblance of her delicate features to the character and her versatile acting skills, and since Hunter is a transgender actress, playing that role would be a huge step towards inclusivity in the mainstream media.

The live-action adaptation of the video game franchise The Legend of Zelda is expected to release in March 2027.
