Star Wars is a franchise that has grown over the past several decades into a pop culture phenomenon. What began as George Lucas' vision in the 1970s eventually became a series that has defined that era for a lot of people. One of the installments is The Rise of Skywalker, which was directed by J.J. Abrams and was released in 2019.
Before its release, Abrams and the film's cast appeared on Jimmy Kimmel's talk show, where they played Family Feud. This game leads to hilarious reactions from everyone, and Abrams ended up saying that leg beats hands.
So let us find out what exactly happened there.
When Star Wars creative team engaged in a funny Force Family Feud round
The team of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel late-night show ahead of its release. They started playing Family Feud, which pits two groups against each other. At one point, Kimmel asks both the teams (headed by J.J. Abrams and Oscar Isaac) what's the worst body part to have chopped off by a lightsaber. Isaac went first and said Hand.
Abrams, on the other hand, had a hilarious response as he opted for legs. He said,
"I'd say for sure leg beats hand."
Indeed, leg beats hand as his team scored 21, while Isaac's scored 7. When the same was asked to Daisy Ridley, she said head.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was directed by J.J. Abrams, and it was the third entry of the sequel trilogy as well as the conclusion of the Skywalker saga. Abrams wrote the story with Chris Terrio, while the screenplay was by them along with Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow. Abrams also served as its producer along with Kathleen Kennedy and Michelle Rejwan.
The cast members of the film are:
- Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa
- Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker
- Adam Driver as Kylo Ren
- Daisy Ridley as Rey
- John Boyega as Finn
- Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron
- Anthony Daniels as C-3PO
In a Rolling Stone interview, Abrams was asked why the Skywalker saga is ending with this film. He said,
"I felt going into this, even on [Episode] VII — I don’t remember if this was discussed or not, but it felt like this was the final trilogy. It felt like it earned being the conclusion of that story. Who’s to say what comes next? Is there something else to be done that involves any of these characters? I’m working on nothing [Star Wars-related], so I’m not hinting at anything. I’m just saying, who’s to know, but it just felt like the end."
The film was released on December 20, 2019, and met with a mixed critical response. Despite that, it ended up grossing over a billion dollars at the box office. Since then, the franchise has churned out several television series, including Andor and The Mandalorian, among others. But there have been no feature films under the banner despite some attempts.
