I feel Thunderbolts* writer's explanation of NYC heroes' absence during the Void attack is too convenient for the plot

Thunderbolts* is possibly the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since Avengers: Endgame that has gotten me and a lot of people excited. The film pivots from being a run-of-the-mill superhero entertainer by digging into interesting themes like mental health issues.

The story is by Eric Pearson, who has also written the screenplay with Joanna Calo. The film directed by Jake Schreier was released on May 2, 2025. In a recent interview, Pearson spoke about the location of other superheroes when the Void attacks in the film. To me, however, his explanation feels too convenient given the overall plot.

Thunderbolts* writer's explanation regarding the Void attack doesn't feel convincing

Thunderbolts* features a battle sequence that takes place in New York City. This is not new for the MCU, as we have seen fight scenes taking place in the Big Apple in titles like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Daredevil: Born Again. Recently, the film's co-writer Eric Pearson spoke to Screen Rant regarding the whereabouts of Daredevil, Spider-Man, and other superheroes when the Void attacks the city. He said,

"I'm going to take the fifth on that one. I haven't looked at the map closely enough of where it went. I'm not sure if it went to Bleecker Street yet. But I also think that the time of it is happening so much faster than you expect. That expansion and retraction of time is different. As we say in Thor: Ragnarok, 'Time works real different around here.' When you're in the Void Space, who knows how long it's been? Maybe it's been one second."

I don't feel it is a convincing argument, given how long the event lasts. There is a possibility that other superheroes did not have enough time to reach the spot to fight off the Void. However, I'm talking about superheroes. It would take a few minutes for Spider-Man to reach any spot in the city. So this explanation does not hold water. It is pretty convenient for the plot to ensure that the namesake superheroes stop the Void and not Daredevil or other superheroes.

Thunderbolts* focuses on the eponymous group of supervillains, including Yelena and Taskmaster, who are dealing with their own personal problems but have been tasked to come together for a mission. Through them, the makers talk about mental health issues, which is a rarity in this genre.

Do you agree with my take on Pearson's comment?
