I just found out Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith referenced Kashyyyk from the Holiday Special (& the first look is quite consistent)

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is a film I have enjoyed since I was a kid. This film concluded the prequel trilogy and was the third entry in the Skywalker Saga. Written and helmed by George Lucas, the film was released in May 2005. Here's the official synopsis as per IMDb:

"As the Clone Wars nears its end, Obi-Wan Kenobi pursues a new threat, while Anakin Skywalker is lured by Chancellor Palpatine into a sinister plot for galactic domination."

Despite being a Star Wars fan for a long time, I was unaware of a crucial detail about this film's holiday edition, which references Kashyyyk.

I recently found out that The Star Wars Holiday Special embraces the franchise legacy, and it has been referenced in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The storyline of the holiday special happens between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. It also showcased Kashyyyk on the big screen.

We see that Chewbacca's loved ones wait for him as well as Han Solo so that they can celebrate Life Day together. The character of Kashyyyk was first shown in Revenge of the Sith, which is a part of the Battle of Kashyyyk. Upon close observation, I was also surprised to find that both versions of Kashyyyk (in the film and special) were consistent, as their visual representation was similar. The terrain and the surroundings of the planet had a strong resemblance in both versions. The Holiday Special was first mentioned in the 91st edition of Marvel's Star Wars comic book series.

Later, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew also referred to the holiday special, ensuring that its legacy continues to be intact. Besides that, several elements were also briefly featured in The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark, as well as Star Wars Rebels.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is a space opera film and concludes the prequel trilogy. It was produced by Rick McCallum, and the film's cast includes:

  • Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Natalie Portman as Padmé Amidala
  • Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu
  • Jimmy Smits as Bail Organa
  • Anthony Daniels as C-3PO
  • Kenny Baker as R2-D2
  • Frank Oz as Yoda
  • Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader

In a 2005 interview with Vanity Fair, George Lucas spoke about Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. He said:

"It’s the missing link. Once it’s there, it’s a complete work, and I’m proud of that. I do see it, tonality-wise, as two trilogies. But they do, together, form one epic of fathers and sons."

He further added that Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is a little darker than other films in the franchise.

"This one is a little tougher, and I think children, young children especially, should be warned that this is not your average Star Wars. It’s a lot darker. There’s a lot more scary stuff in it. It’s brutal in places, and they should be aware of that. And at least if it does come out to be a PG-13, the parents are warned to be careful of bringing tiny little kids, like five and six years old, because it might be too much. Know your kids. I have three kids—they’re all grown up now—but when they were six, I knew what I could take them to and couldn’t. People think Star Wars is extremely innocent, although we do cut a lot of people in half and cut off a lot of arms."
