When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez had appeared in a scene for I Know What You Did Last Summer, which did not make the final cut. The scene had also featured Lola Tung, who was removed from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s directed film. Recently, Chavez spoke to US Weekly about it and said:

“I mean, Jennifer is a good friend. She’s really, really cool people, and, you know, me and Lola had a really, really good time. But, like, look — that’s filmmaking.”

He added:

“All I could think about was my time that I spent in Australia, which was hanging out with kangaroos, going on hot air balloon adventures over the plains at sunrise, going cherry picking with my girlfriend. That’s actually all I remember when I think about that movie.”

The actor did not reveal the character he had played in I Know What You Did Last Summer.

“That’s left to other people!”

He was also asked if he would return for a sequel. In response, Chavez said:

“You know, ask me tomorrow, I’ll have a million different answers for you. The only thing that matters at this point in my career is just doing good material with people who I love and people who I believe in and who believe in me.”

Robinson spoke to People magazine about the removal of certain scenes from the film. She said:

“In every movie, it’s best laid plans, and then you edit the movie and you put it together and you go, ‘I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn’t fit in the movie. It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic. I really would love to work with them again. I loved working with them. They did a fabulous job. But in the larger tapestry of the film, it just didn’t fit.”

The story of I Know What You Did Last Summer was written by Robinson and Leah McKendrick, and Robinson also penned the screenplay with Sam Lansky. Besides an original star cast, the film starred Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt as Ray Bronson and Julie James, respectively, from the first film.
