The Brazilian film I'm Still Here will be released on Netflix in the US on May 17, 2025. This release comes after the film's successful run in festivals and theaters across the world. Many viewers have been eagerly waiting to see this film and can now watch it from home.

I'm Still Here follows the real story of a woman named Eunice Paiva, whose husband, Rubens Paiva, was taken by the military in Brazil in 1971. The situation got worse when he never came back. The story is based on a book written by their son, Marcelo Rubens Paiva, who later became a well-known writer. The film shows how Eunice, once a quiet woman focused on taking care of her family, became a fighter for justice and human rights.

About I'm Still Here

I'm Still Here had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2024. It was praised for its honest storytelling and strong performances. After that, the film was released in Brazilian cinemas on November 7, 2024. I'm Still Here later reached U.S. theaters on February 14, 2025. Now, with its Netflix release set for May, more people will be able to witness this moving story.

I'm Still Here is set in Rio de Janeiro during the 1970s. At the time, Brazil was under military rule. The government was strict, to say the least, and many people who spoke against it were either arrested or disappeared forever.

Rubens Paiva, a former congressman, was one of those people. After he was taken, his wife, Eunice, was left to raise their five children alone. But she did not stay silent. She began asking questions and trying to find out the truth. Over time, she became a strong voice for other families who had also lost their loved ones.

Fernanda Torres plays Eunice in the film. She portrays both the pain and the strength of a woman who refuses to give up. Selton Mello plays Rubens, and Fernanda Montenegro plays the older version of Eunice. I'm Still Here is directed by Walter Salles, who is known for his past work on films like The Motorcycle Diaries and Central Station. The script was written by Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega.

Despite facing political backlash in Brazil, the film was a big success. Critics praised the film for its emotional depth and historical accuracy. Internationally, it was well received as well. At the 97th Academy Awards, it received three nominations: Best Picture, Best International Feature, and Best Actress for Torres, and finally won the award for Best International Feature.

At the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, I'm Still Here was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actress in a Motion Picture—Drama (Torres). Torres created history by becoming the first Brazilian actress to win a Golden Globe for acting.
