Netflix has already decided on a follow-up sequel movie of Luther and Idris Elba will reprise his role as DCI John Luther. Ruth Wilson is also coming back as Alice Morgan, the brilliant but unpredictable woman who has always shared a weird magnetic relationship with Luther. It is so exciting that fans can see them reunited on the screen again. Dermot Crowley will also re-enact his role as the sensible and level-headed Superintendent, who frequently attempts to put Luther in check.

It remains a secret, but the story is pledging everything that the fans are fond of: dark crimes, hard decisions, and Luther pushed to the extreme at work and in his personal life. The combination of the tension, mystery, and the distorted relationship between Luther and Alice has all the people talking on the internet. It appears that this Luther sequel film will resurrect the gritty, noir, style drama that made the TV show such a hit.

Why Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson’s reunion matters in Luther sequel

Alice Morgan, played by Ruth Wilson is not another side character; she is an embodiment of power. It was her relationship with Idris Elba’s Luther that added spice to the show and turned it into a fascinating combination of danger, attraction, and dark humor. The decision to bring Alice back proves that the new Luther film is not merely about big action scenes, but one that also dwells on the emotional weight and ethical issues that made the series so engaging.

Since the story will be available on Netflix, it has the potential to reach more people and spend a larger budget on thrilling locations, spectacular visuals and higher stakes, without losing the dark and intense atmosphere that the readers are accustomed to.

At the core, Luther has always been a tale of good versus evil, in the world and within oneself. The reunion of Elba and Wilson will bring back those moments of chemistry and introspection that are so strong, that they could make the audience wonder, Who is the real monster in this situation?

What to expect

First, the tone. The best parts of Luther were the mix of edge-of-your-seat tension and quiet, emotional moments. If the sequel maintains that balance, it will feel like a real continuation of the story and not just some big action movie.

Second, the stakes. Because this one is a movie, the story can be much bigger: global crimes perhaps, or a major conspiracy reaching well beyond London.

Third, the relationship between Luther and Alice: are they partners, enemies, or something complicated in between? That's always been one of the most exciting elements of this show.

And lastly, the team behind it: which will in turn show if the Luther sequel movie desires to stay true to Luther's roots or take it in a fresh new direction with the returning cast, writers, and director.
