The Marvel Cinematic Universe now has two back-to-back successes, Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, both sitting with an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score. The former is directed by Jake Schreier while Matt Shakman directed the latter. Shakman recently appeared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and told them about the films he drew inspiration from for this. He said,
"T.S. Eliot said, “Good artists borrow, great artists steal,” and I definitely am not ashamed of stealing from some of the folks that I love so much. So Interstellar was a huge reference."
Not just Interstellar, Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey was also one reference for Matt Shakman's film. For that, he said,
"When you see a shot of [Excelsior] docking, it is absolutely a loving homage to the Pan Am jet heading towards the space station in 2001."
Another reference in it was from the documentary film Apollo 11, which is about the 1969 Apollo 11 mission. Interestingly, a 47-minute edit of this documentary film exists and it's called Apollo 11: First Steps Edition. Though Shakman didn't say if 'First Steps' was borrowed from this title.
There's a more deeper meaning to the Interstellar reference

There's no maneuver that will cost Marvel's first family 51 years in the 1960s, but they sure are all about caring for their children. Child, actually, as Valeria isn't born in this story yet.
As The Hollywood Reporter mentions, this film is more about how parents will go to great lengths to protect their children, which is basically what Interstellar is about.
Although, there's a difference between the stories. In Interstellar, Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) had to leave Murph (Mackenzie Foy) behind to save the planet that's becoming full of dirt. In The Fantastic Four: First Step, however, Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) don't leave Franklin, their child, behind.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is having a fantastic run

Marvel's first family is already having a fantastic run at the box office, where it made $24.4 million in previews. Deadline speculates that the film is likely to garner $125 million by Sunday.
Thunderbolts released on Friday too, and made $74 million at the domestic box office. All in all, Thunderbolts made $382 million at the global box office. The film was made on a reported $180 million budget, so that makes it slightly profitable. The Fantastic Four: First Steps was made on reportedly a budget of a little over $200 million, so it should be eyeing around $450-$500 million.
Interestingly, both films have a nod to upcoming Marvel films. In Thunderbolts, we saw the Fantastic Four's ship entering the earth's atmosphere in the post-credits scene and now we have a glimpse of something in the Matt Shakman film that certainly connects it to Avengers: Doomsday.
