Brad Arnold, lead singer and founding member of 3 Doors Down, has been diagnosed with stage four clear cell renal carcinoma, a serious form of kidney cancer, that has spread to his lungs.

He shared the news with his followers in a video on Instagram on May 7, 2025.

"Hey everybody, it’s Brad from 3 Doors Down. I hope you’re having a great day today. I’ve got some not-so-good news for you today.”

The “Kryptonite” singer said in the clip. He said that he had been sick the past few days and went to the hospital to get checked out, where the doctors discovered the cancer.

He further announced that the band has been forced to cancel their upcoming 2025 tour in the wake of his diagnosis. He requested his fans to keep him in their prayers.

He has been married to his wife Jennifer Sanderford since 2009. She is a professional barrel racer, according to her Instagram profile. The couple doesn’t share any kids but two Golden Retrievers, one of them passed away a few months ago.

His recent cancer diagnosis has drawn the attention of his fans towards his family, as they are keen to know more about them. Here are the details.

All you need to know about Brad Arnold’s family

According to his IMDb profile, Brad Arnold was born on September 27, 1978, in Escatawpa, Mississippi, USA. His real name is Bradley Kirk Arnold.

The 46-year-old has been married twice. He first tied the knot with Terika Roberts on May 15, 2001. They divorced in 2007.

After splitting from his first wife in 2006, Arnold reconnected with his childhood friend, Jennifer Sanderford, during a blind date, and they began dating. He told the outlet during that time,

“From that day on we haven’t spent two months apart in the past three years. She is the girl I love to be around”.

According to a report in the Boston Herald, the singer proposed to his current wife at Kate’s Cove in Mississippi on a rainy day in November 2008. He sang one of his songs, where the last line goes, “Will you please be my wife?”

They married on September 12, 2009, in their hometown of Escatawpa, in a private ceremony reportedly attended by 120 guests. He said,

“My baby is a sweet girl. I couldn’t be more happy. I thank god everyday that I get to spend the rest of my life with her.”
"We were going to write our own vows and she said, 'That's not fair, you're a writer. Please don't make me say anything.' I said, 'Baby, you at least have to say I do'."

The theme of their wedding was black and white. They headed for their honeymoon in Hawaii.

The couple doesn’t share any kids of their own, as he shared on a TikTok in September 2024 when they lost their golden retriever, Luna. In the post he wrote,

“We don’t have kids we have two golden retrievers.”

The following day, they adopted another puppy named Lucy Mae. Their other dog is Tucker.

Arnold is one of the founding members of 3 Doors Down alongside the late Matt Roberts (who died in 2016 due to a drug overdose) and Todd Harrell. The band was formed in 1996. Chris Henderson joined as rhythm guitarist in 1998. Their music is described as post-grunge, alternative rock, and hard rock.

Their current lineup consists of Arnold, Henderson, Greg Upchurch, Chet Roberts and Justin Biltonen, per a report in Daily Mail.
