If rumors are to be believed, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will not include this character from the Marvel Disney+ shows: Daredevil/Matt Murdock. Alex Perez, who is an industry insider and also a writer in Cosmic Circus, revealed that actor Charlie Cox is not a part of Brand New Day, even if Jon Bernthal's The Punisher is a part of the movie.
This update has some fans disappointed because they are huge fans of the team-up between Daredevil and Spider-Man. Therefore, if this rumor turns out to be true, then for Daredevil, for now, will stay on the streaming side of things, while Spider-Man will be on the movie side. But despite this disappointing update, the hype for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is very much real.
Is Daredevil not appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
It must be noted that we should take Alex Perez's words with a pinch of salt. That means that there are chances that Matt Murdock or Daredevil may or may not appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The movie just began shooting the movie, and therefore it is too early to say if Charlie Cox is in the movie or not. However, if Brand New Day continues No Way Home's tradition and brings back Cox, a lot of fans will celebrate the news.
To be fair, Charlie Cox also has expressed hope for a team-up with the Wall-Crawler. In his panel at FAN EXPO Chicago last year, the British actor, when asked about which Marvel character he wanted Daredevil to team up with, said:
"Spider-man and Daredevil together is so iconic. I hope we get to work together again."
Therefore, even if Cox's Daredevil sits out Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it is possible that fans may get the long-awaited Spidey and Daredevil team-up, which was set up back in 2021's No Way Home. Plus, one of MCU Daredevil's key characters, Frank Castle/The Punisher, is going to play an important role in Brand New Day.
What do we know about Brand New Day?
Brand New Day shares its title with a 2008 storyline that followed Peter's deal with Mephisto. The upcoming fourth movie will follow a lonely Peter Parker trying to navigate a world that has forgotten him. Marvel boss Kevin Feige teased the tone of the movie in a press conference on July 20, 2025:
“I think there’s a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with — for lack of better terms — street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events.”
Then, he continued:
“So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. That great cover... I don’t want to say too much, but Destin — I will say too much — Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. And he’s got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.”
