Death of a Unicorn is A24's latest horror comedy with evil unicorns. However, they might not be the only monstrous part of this film, starring Paul Rudd, Will Poulter, and Jenna Ortega.

The film shows Ortega as a daughter fed up with her parent(s), once again after her star-making role in Netflix's Wednesday. However, it seems to have made its mark, since the film received a thunderous response at its SXSW premiere. Sources say that the Rudd and Ortega starrer debuted at the Austin-based festival to a vibrant audience reaction. It also holds an 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. So, it seems to be off to a promising start.

Before the premiere, the film had been building momentum through the release of two trailers followed by a short promo. So, the A24 fans might just be amped up as the Ortega fans. Lucky for them, Death of a Unicorn will soon be out in theaters across the United States. However, it might take a while for it to be available online.

So, you can get a ticket for its theatrical screening on their official ticketing portals and catch it from Thursday, March 27 onwards. Please note that the film is rated R before you book your tickets.

However, as mentioned before, Death of a Unicorn is not available to stream anywhere at the moment. The film just had its world premiere and is yet to have its wide theatrical release. So, the fans might have to wait a few months to find it online.

Since it is an A24 studio production, there's a strong chance the film will eventually land on Max (previously known as HBO Max). This is in line with the studio's 2023 deal with the WBD (Warner Bros Discovery) to bring their theatrical releases to stream exclusively on Max.

However, please note that neither this detail nor an online release date has been confirmed as of yet.

Death of a Unicorn will feature monstrous unicorns and a billionaire family fighting for their lives after a father-daughter duo gets into a strange accident. Here's its official synopsis:

"A father and daughter accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties."

Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) plays the father of Jenna Ortega (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice). Richard E. Grant stars as the boss, Téa Leoni as his wife, and Will Poulter as their son. The cast also includes Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Jessica Hynes, and Steve Park.

The film marks Alex Scharfman's feature directorial debut, who has also written its script. According to Variety's report post its premiere, the film received a passionate reaction from the audience as they screamed and cheered at the film's laughs and scares. The early reviews seem to agree with these audience reactions for the most part.

Slant Magazine's Rocco T. Thompson says,

"Death of a Unicorn taps into the anti-capitalist strain in late-20th-century monster movies from Alien to Jurassic Park by tracing a clever through line from the unicorns of antiquity to the present."

Variety's Peter DeBruge speaks about the film's "ambitious" nature,

"Death of a Unicorn is considerably more ambitious and imaginative than so much of what studios greenlight these days, which goes a fair distance to excuse some of its flaws."
