Tom Holland's Peter Parker will soon be seen swinging in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth film in the MCU sub-franchise that first came into existence in 2017 with Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film's title was revealed just recently alongside the release date, which landed it between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, on July 31, 2026.

By now, the cast, other than Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Sadie Sink, were confirmed to be appearing in the movie; now there's another addition to the crew, Liza Colón-Zayas, as Deadline reports. However, like Sadie, Liza's role isn't clear in the movie.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is here in the director's chair too. Other than the MCU film, his filmmaking credits include Short Term 12 (2013), The Glass Castle (2017), Just Mercy (2019), and more.

Where does Liza Colón-Zayas fit in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

With Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) gone in Spider-Man: No Way Home, we cannot think about any other character Liza Colón-Zayas can fit in other than Parker's guardian in some capacity. Or maybe some version of her now that the multiverse is open, and it holds a capacity to send any variant of a character down in the MCU.

There are a few of them from comics that fans might like to see in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. That includes a steampunk Lady Spider, a friendly neighborhood Spider-Ma'am, or even her symbiotic counterpart from Spider-Verse #2 that's no short of an abomination.

In No Way Home, Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) returns from a different timeline, moments before he is about to be killed by his own Goblin Glider. Sadly, that glider ended up injuring her in this timeline, leading to her death. Now Parker has no one to look up to, especially considering the fact that the world doesn't remember him after Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) cast that spell.

That said, it is all but confirmed that our superhero is beginning a new life, which isn't really good if we go by the Brand New Day storyline from the comics. Liza may even enter as some landowner of a home he might end up living in in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. On that note, it is possible she isn't even in a major role in there.

Liza Colón-Zayas has appeared in DC before

Spider-Man: Brand New Day won't be Liza Colón-Zayas' first outing in a superhero project. Previously, she has appeared in DC's Titans, which is based on Teen Titans. There, she played Detective Jessica Perez of the Detroit Police Department for two episodes.

She is currently one fan favorite character, Tina Marrero, in The Bear. The role landed her the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2024.

But that's not all. She has appeared in a number of projects before, where the movie roles include The Purge: Election Year (2016), Collateral Beauty (2016), IF (2024), and more. For television, she has appeared in Sex and the City (2004), Dexter (2010), Blue Bloods (2016), and more.
