Malik Beasley, an American NBA player for the Detroit Pistons, has found himself under federal investigation over gambling-related allegations.

The U.S. Attorney's Office is leading the investigation. His lawyer, Steve Haney, who is representing him in the matter, told People,

"I've been doing this for over 20 years and I've had numerous clients investigated federally that have never been charged with a crime, so the fact that there is an investigation that is associated with Malik in some fashion does not mean he's charged of the crime, doesn't mean that he's banned from basketball, doesn't mean anything other than what it means — that [there is] an investigation that includes his involvement"

While Malik is not currently married, he was previously married to Montana Helena Klein Yao. The couple got married in March 2020 and got divorced in 2025 after nearly five years of marriage. Montana Yao, Malik Beasley’s ex-wife, filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason in the documents.

However, this isn’t the first time Yao filed for divorce. Back in 2020, just a few months after their marriage, she filed for divorce for the first time after her ex-husband, Beasley, was seen getting close to Larsa Pippen. Pippen is a television personality who appeared in The Real Housewives of Miami. The couple later got back together after solving their problems and continued their relationship.

How many children does Malik Beasley have?

Malik Beasley and his ex-wife, Montana Yao, share two children together. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Makai Joseph Beasley, in March 2019. They welcomed their second child, a daughter whom they named Mia Love Beasley, in November 2022.

Beasley is quite close to his kids and often uploads their pictures on social media. In an Instagram post wishing a sixth birthday to Makai, he wrote,

Currently, Malik, the son of actor Michael Beasley and actress Deena Beasley, is dating Brazilian model Natalia Garibotto. The couple confirmed their relationship in March this year. Since then, Malik has been quite open about his relationship and has shared multiple photos of himself with Natalia.

The gambling allegations against Malik reportedly derive from the 2023-2024 season when he played for the Milwaukee Bucks. However, his lawyer, Steve Haney, has reportedly denied the allegations by saying,

"A lot of people are investigated for things that they haven't done"
