ABC journalist Matt Gutman has opened up about the text messages between Tyler Robinson, the suspect in Charlie Kirk shooting and his roommate Lance Twiggs, describing them as “touching.”
Gutman shared about the text messages during his commentary on ABC News Live. According to a report in the New York Post, he said:
“I don’t think I ever experienced a press conference in which we’ve read text messages that are A – so fulsome, so robust, so apparently allegedly self-incriminating and yet, on the other hand, so touching, right?”
The text messages were exchanged between Robinson and his partner, Twiggs, prior to the killing of Kirk on September 10, 2025, at a campus event in Utah Valley University. Matt Gutman has drawn huge criticism from the masses online, who accused him of romanticizing a confession to murder.
Gutman has been married to his wife Daphna Venyige since May 17, 2007. She reportedly worked as a desk assistant at the ABC News network. They share two kids – a daughter named Libby and a son named Benjamin, according to his IMDb profile.
