Michael Alaimo, known for his acting in Space Jam (1996), The Way of the Gun (2000), and even the ‘80s soap Falcon Crest, has died aged 86. After the news of his death, many users online started to question if he was related to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine star Marc Alaimo.

The main source of confusion appears to be from Wikipedia, which states Marc Alaimo has a son, Michael Alaimo, which has led some to believe that the late actor is the son of Marc. That is not the case.

Marc Alaimo, born in 1942, turns out to be younger than the Michael Alaimo who just died. This makes it impossible for them to be father and son or even siblings. Despite the shared last names and work in the entertainment business, no relation has been proven between the two actors.

Alaimo is well known for his role as Gul Dukat in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, while Michael Alaimo was known for supporting roles on various shows and films during the 1980s and 90s.

As noted in his obituary, Michael Alaimo passed away, surrounded by family in Los Angeles. A native New Yorker, he relocated to California, where he pursued an acting career and later met his lifelong partner, Mary. The two met in college through their mutual interest in theater and got married soon after graduation.

They were married for over fifty years. Michael and Mary had two sons, and the family always remained the focal point in their lives. Apart from acting, Michael was an accomplished guitarist, a passionate teacher, and frequently mentored young aspiring artists. His family remembers him as someone who was profoundly loving, creative, and at the same time, generous.

Unlike his on-screen roles, which the public prominently recognized him for, the legacy Michael Alaimo leaves behind truly lies in his off-screen touch, through his students, the music he played, and the strong relationships he nurtured with his wife and children.
