American actor, writer, and stand-up comedian Michael Longfellow reportedly appeared for an anchor screen test in May 2025 at Studio 8H in Manhattan, New York City, for Weekend Update, according to Late Nighter and Puck.

Longfellow is not married. However, Parade reported that in October 2020, he celebrated his third anniversary with his girlfriend Kate. The current status of his relationship remains undisclosed.

For those unaware, Weekend Update is a Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch and satirical news program. Notably, the show is currently on hiatus and will return on October 4. For a long time, it has been hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost. While they haven’t officially announced their exit, they have talked about leaving for a long time.

According to AV Club, Che spoke about quitting SNL during his stand-up sets throughout this year, and also reportedly tested for a late-night show. Meanwhile, Jost wrote about leaving Weekend Update in his 2020 book.

Michael Longfellow was born on January 31, 1994, in Phoenix, Arizona. An actor, comedian, and writer, Longfellow is best known as a cast member of the NBC comedy sketch program, Saturday Night Live.

He joined SNL in October 2022 as a featured player for its 48th season alongside Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, and Devon Walker. Michael Longfellow is an alumnus of Arizona State University, from where he obtained a BA in English literature.

During his college years, the now-31-year-old began doing stand-up comedy. Later, in 2016, he relocated to Los Angeles and became a professional comedian. Michael began performing across comedy clubs in LA, such as The Hollywood Improv, and soon landed a gig at the “Netflix is a Joke” festival.

He also appeared on the TBS late-night talk show Conan in 2017 and three episodes of the 2019 NBC comedy competition series, Bring the Funny, hosted by Kenan Thomas of SNL fame. The Phoenix native was one of TBS’ Comics to Watch at the 2017 New York Comedy Festival.

Michael Longfellow’s first gig on SNL was on Weekend Update, where he spoke about his anti-vaccination relatives, Trump-supporting father Tom, and actress Sydney Sweeney’s conservative parents. At the time, he was lauded for her writing skills and timing of the jokes.

In 2023, Longfellow appeared in a cameo in the comedy film Good Burger 2. Earlier this year, he was part of the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special. Michael Longfellow was also among eight comedians to appear on Netflix-sponsored standup showcase series, Introducing…

Longfellow, who is close to his mother, makes jokes that often centre around having stepparents, according to Parade. His sets about his father, Tom, and stepfather Terry are often popular. In fact, his official website cites him as an actor, comedian, writer, and stepson.

Last year in January, he appeared on LaughTrackTV with the title ‘MY STEPDAD TERRY,’ where he also made jokes about his complicated family dynamic. During his 2024 interview with SNL Transcripts Tonight with Colin Jost, he mentioned having a stepbrother.

Michael appeared on the E! Network reality series, Dating: No Filter, and co-hosts a podcast called What’s Your Sign? with comedian Stevie Anderson and Julia Loken.

Longfellow, who has 176K Instagram followers, performs in stand-up comedy shows and festivals across the USA and Canada. He has two shows lined up for September 19-20 in San Jose, California.
