The Black Adam star Noah Centineo is all set to play Rambo in an upcoming prequel from Millennium Media, according to the latest report from Deadline. It comes three months after the publication revealed that a prequel is currently being developed. The project is set to revive the franchise that began in 1982 with Sylvester Stallone-starrer, First Blood.

Centineo is set to take over the titular role from Stallone, who portrayed it in five movies until 2019. The actioner is set to follow John Rambo's origins before he set foot in a small town as a war veteran in First Blood. Although the plot details have not been disclosed, the prequel is expected to draw from his experiences from the Vietnam War.

Jonathan Yunger, the president of Millennium Media, told Entertainment Weekly, stating:

"We are thrilled to introduce a fresh new chapter to the Rambo legacy. This project is a tribute to one of the best franchises in movie history that will appeal to both longtime fans and new audiences alike."

Before backing the upcoming prequel with a new lead, Millennium also backed the 2008 film, Rambo, and the 2019 film, Rambo: Last Blood.

Noah Centineo is expected to star as the army man who later becomes a fierce vigilante by choice or by circumstances. The latest prequel with him as the lead is expected to go on floors with Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander serving as the director. Helander previously helmed action thrillers like Sisu (2022) and Big Game (2014).

The Finnish director will be working with a screenplay penned by Sohrab Noshirvani and Rory Haines, who previously collaborated on the script for Black Adam (2022) and The Mauritanian (2021). The latter of these projects earned them two BAFTA nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Outstanding British Film of the Year.

The latest franchise installment will be produced by Templeton Media with Kevin King Templeton being one of the producers, other than Avi Lerner, Les Weldon, and Jonathan Yunger. Besides them, Amanda Presmyk and Dallas Sonnier from Bonfire Legends are executive producing the project with Trevor Short, as per Deadline.

The publication also mentions that Lionsgate is expected to have the best shot at collaborating on this project. According to their report, the prequel is expected to go on floors in Thailand in 2026.

The next year, he starred in another romantic comedy, The Perfect Date, which also starred Camila Mendes and Laura Marano. He also followed up on the success of the 2018 teenage romance by starring in two follow-up projects.

In recent years, Centineo has been breaking this mold by starring in action thrillers like Dwayne Johnson-starrer Black Adam, A24's Warfare, and the Netflix series, The Recruit.
