Isabela Merced self announces her return as Hawkgirl in the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow

James Gunn has just announced the official name and release date of the Superman (2025) sequel, Man of Tomorrow, on Instagram, which is set for July 9, 2025. The post clearly indicates that David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will be reprising their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively. Gunn did not mention or tag any other cast members of the upcoming film, but Isabela Merced has self-announced that she will be returning as Hawkgirl in the Superman sequel.

Isabela Merced starred as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl in Superman (2025) and Peacemaker season 2, which premiered on 21st August 2025. After James Gunn made the post about Man of Tomorrow, Merced shared it on her Instagram story and self-announced that she would also be a part of the upcoming film.

Isabela Merced will return in Man of Tomorrow

Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to Superman, will be released almost exactly two years after its predecessor was. As we saw Lex Luthor failing to defeat Superman through a clone in the first film, the sequel will follow Luthor taking matters into his own hands. The picture from the comics posted by Gunn shows Luther in a war suit, which means he is going all out this time.

While the post did not mention anything about Hawkgirl, Isabela Mereced shared the post to her Instagram story (@isabelamerced) with the words,

''See you soon''

This is a clear confirmation of the actress returning to Man of Tomorrow as Hawkgirl. In Superman, we see Hawkgirl as a part of the Justice Gang, which also consists of Green Lantern and Mister Terrific. This team helps Superman fight the Kaiju unleashed by Lex Luthor. We again see Hawkgirl when Superman sends Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Metamorpho to prevent Boravia from invading Jarhanpur once again. In their attempt to stop the invasion, Hawkgirl kills Ghurkos.

Merced was also seen in Peacemaker season two's first episode, The Ties That Grind. Peacemaker/Chris Smith is not happy that he is still not considered a hero, and thus applies to be a part of the Justice Gang, which is where we see Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, along with Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern. The Justice Gang rejects Peacemaker's application due to his questionable actions in the past.

Other than her work in DC projects, Isabela Merced has recently starred as Aza Holmes in Turtles All the Way Down (2024), Kay in Alien: Romulus (2025), and Dina in The Last of Us season two. The other DCU projects set to be released soon include Supergirl, Clayface, and The Batman Part II.

Thus, Man of Tomorrow would be Isabela Merced's third appearance as Hawkgirl in the DCU. James Gunn will be writing and directing the film, with David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprising their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively.
