View this post on Instagram Instagram PostAs of this writing, there are five films in the franchise, which have been a continuation of the popular slapstick comedy TV series of the same name, beginning on October 1, 2000.Several projects related to the series were developed later, including National Lampoon's TV: The Movie (2006), Steve-O's Bucket List (2023), and more. All Jackass films have been commercial successesThough all the films had a mild reception from the critics, all of them have been huge successes after hitting the global box office. The first film in the franchise was released in 2002, earning almost $80 million against a $5 million budget. Initially, when producers reached out to Knoxville to do the movie after a successful run of the TV series, he rejected it, assuming that Hollywood actors might replace the original cast. However, when he was informed that it would be a "naughtier version," he agreed to star in the film.A sequel was released four years after the first movie and earned a better critical reception than its predecessor, grossing $84.6 million at the 2006 Box Office. With some unused material, including a compilation of stunts, a mini sequel titled Jackass 2.5 was later released on DVD.Following that, the third film was released in 2010. Jackass 3D would become the highest-grossing movie in the franchise, making $171 million on a $20 million budget, making it one of the two movies that managed to cross the $100 million mark. It also had a slightly better reception than the last one. A mini-sequel titled Jackass 3.5 also followed its release. The critical reception, for the fourth film, hit a bit of a plummet, and so did the box office numbers. The film cannot be referred to as a Box Office bomb, since it made $151 million on a production budget of $15 million. This was more of a spin-off to the main installment, titled Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, and also ended up landing an Oscar nomination. The latest film in the franchise, called Jackass Forever, is currently the highest-rated movie in the franchise, according to the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, sitting fresh with an 86% score. As for the box office numbers, the film managed to earn $80.5 million on a $10 million budget.Keep reading Soap Central for more updates like this.
