James Gunn’s Superman movie is already making waves, and not just for the usual superhero reasons. Clocking in at 122 minutes, it’s officially the shortest non-sequel Superman film ever, breaking DC franchise records months before hitting theaters on July 11. It's also the second shortest Superman film, with the first one being 1987's Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

With new elements like Krypto the Superdog and a lighter tone, Gunn is clearly aiming to redefine the Man of Steel for today’s audience. But with the clock ticking shorter than fans expect and some big summer blockbusters in the mix, the question remains: can this compact Superman soar as high as his predecessors? The excitement is palpable, and July can’t come soon enough to find out.

This fresh take starring David Corenswet ditches the usual “Who is Superman?” origin story and drops us into a world where superheroes aren’t secrets anymore. They’re part of the daily chatter, known, scrutinized, sometimes adored, sometimes criticized. People see their struggles, their sacrifices, and how they juggle fame, responsibility, and expectations. Lois Lane? She’s already in on the secret; she knows Clark Kent is Superman and even sits down with him for interviews, bringing a new, intimate angle to their story. Instead of discovering who he is, this film explores what it really means to be a hero when the whole world is watching and expecting so much.

James Gunn's Superman is marking his entry into the DC universe and will be the first film from Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The cast is stacked: David Corenswet steps in as the new Superman, while Nicholas Hoult is stepping up as Lex Luthor, ready to bring that classic villain edge. Rachel Brosnahan is playing Lois Lane, Superman's ladylove, and the duo is already sparking insane chemistry. There’s also a squad of DC heroes making appearances—think Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Green Lantern—setting the stage for a connected universe that James Gunn and producer Peter Safran are building from the ground up.

Visually, expect some serious magic, shot across stunning locations from Norway to Georgia, with the IMAX factor adding even more quality to the project. The score by John Murphy promises to hit that perfect blend of epic and emotional, twisting newer edges to the old soundtrack.

At its core, Gunn’s Superman is all about kindness, hope, and what it means to be a symbol in a world that’s maybe a little too cynical. It’s a story about a hero who doesn’t just save people with power but by inspiring goodness and truth, and it arrives just when we need that energy the most.

Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
