Superman has kicked off the DC Universe, which will consist of several films and shows releasing in the coming years. The superhero film was written and directed by James Gunn, and dropped in the theaters on July 11, 2025, released by Warner Bros Pictures. Its official synopsis, as per Letterboxd, describes the film as:
Superman, a journalist in Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.
The film continues to do well, having crossed the $300 million mark at the box office.

The DC film has crossed the $300 million mark domestically at the box office. It has become the first solo Man of Steel film to pass that mark in the domestic market, and it's also the first DC project since 2022's The Batman to achieve these numbers.
The James Gunn-directed film is also the ninth film from the DC studios to cross that triple-digit mark in the US-Canada ticket window.
Overall, it is the ninth DC movie to surpass the $300 million mark at the U.S./Canada box office, surpassing notable titles like Man of Steel ($291 million) and Justice League ($229 million).

The film is produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran and serves as a reboot of the film franchise. It is also the first film in DCU's planned Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Here is a list of its cast members:

Recently, Gunn revealed on social media that was occupied with Peacemaker Season 2's press tour and was writing a sequel.
“Peacemaker press!! And sequel writing!!!,” he wrote on Thread.
He later clarified and said:
“This is the same movie. Superman has a major role. It’s not Superman 2."
In an EW interview, Gunn was asked if he was working on the film's sequel, to which he said:
“What I’m working on is in some way…I mean, yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straight-up Superman sequel? I would not say necessarily.”
Meanwhile, the DCU will be releasing titles like Supergirl, Clayface, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and a potential Wonder Woman film. Their forthcoming television series includes Peacemaker 2, Creature Commandos, and Booster Gold, among others.
