James Gunn's Superman has soared past early box office expectations, with David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan winning hearts as the new Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
The film was officially released in theaters on Friday, July 11, and holds a reported hefty budget tag of $225 million. So, per Deadline, the film has seemingly recovered nearly 20% of its budget through global previews, even before it officially arrived in cinemas. The film has earned over $22.5 million in previews at the North American theaters, surpassing even Lilo & Stitch ($14.5 million) in its preview collections.
Overseas, the DC/Warner Bros. film reportedly earned $17.8 million through its early screenings on Wednesday and Thursday, taking its cumulative global preview collection to $40.3 million. So, it is only a few million shy of acquiring 20% of its production budget.
Based on the recent reports, the superhero film has also overtaken Gareth Edwards' Jurassic World Rebirth and Joseph Kosinski's F1 to take the top spot in the charts. The film has also been acclaimed, earning an 82% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and a 94% score from the audience. So, the future of DC Studios seems to be in safe hands.
