Jason Statham’s Mutiny has moved from its original January 2026 release to a summer debut, placing it in the midst of a crowded blockbuster season. The shift marks a bold change for the action star, stepping out of his typical winter slot and into a more competitive summer landscape.
Helmed by Jean-François Richet, Mutiny brings Statham back in full throttle as a hardened special ops vet who goes rogue after a betrayal from within his own unit. While the premise may sound familiar, The Beekeeper used a similar formula and earned over $160 million on a $40 million budget.
But the summer window presents a challenge, placing Mutiny in the middle of stiff competition. With The Mandalorian and Grogu and The Devil Wears Prada 2 opening in May, and titans like Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and DC’s Supergirl waiting in the wings, Statham’s thriller could struggle to stand out. His January slot had once given The Beekeeper breathing room. Now, Mutiny faces a tougher crowd. However, Statham’s image as an action hero could very well be the saving face for the project.
More details about Mutiny
Mutiny is directed by Jean-François Richet, with a screenplay penned by Lindsay Michel and J. P. Davis. Fronted by the action icon, the film also stars Annabelle Wallis, Jason Wong, Roland Møller, Arnas Fedaravičius, and Adrian Lester. Produced by Punch Palace Productions—Statham’s own company—and MadRiver Pictures, the film is scheduled to hit U.S. theatres in summer 2026 via Lionsgate Films.
At the heart of Mutiny is Cole Reed, played by Jason Statham—a man forged by the grit of the Special Forces and the streets of New York as a former police officer. Now working in private security, Reed’s life takes a brutal turn when he’s framed for the murder of his close friend, a Thai billionaire named Tibu. What starts as a personal mission quickly unravels into a global conspiracy that tests Reed’s limits.
Jason Wong plays Taran, while Annabelle Wallis leads opposite Statham. The cast also features Roland Møller as the antagonist, alongside Arnas Fedaravičius and Adrian Lester. The film began shooting in September 2024 across the United Kingdom, including a dramatic sequence that locked down One Canada Square at Canary Wharf. Production later moved to the striking locations of Malta before wrapping on November 25.
Originally slated for a January 2026 debut, the film’s release has been pushed to summer 2026. Lionsgate secured North American rights ahead of Cannes, while Sky acquired UK distribution via StudioCanal. International sales are being handled by The Veterans, making Mutiny one of the most anticipated global action releases of the year.
