Set to hit theaters in a few hours, the newest installment of Karate Kid: Legends is a unique blend of aspects from the originals and remakes within the franchise. Directed by Jonathan Entwistle, the film has already garnered $13.5 million from its early release in Mexico and Colombia.

Jackie Chan is reprising his role as Mr. Han from the 2010 remake, where he trained Jaden Smith’s Dre Parker. From the original films, Ralph Macchio is set to make a comeback as Daniel LaRusso. No clues about Johnny Lawrence, but we do know where he ends up in Cobra Kai.

In addition to the film, the soundtrack will be released today as well. The score of Karate Kid: Legends is composed by Dominic Lewis. The track list of the soundtrack is listed below!

What is the film about?

Like the original films, it plays on a similar trope where a mother and her son have moved to the U.S., and her son finds himself among bullies, which leads to a tournament—now he needs to prove himself. The only difference here is that this new Karate Kid in town has two mentors.

If you go by the official synopsis on its website, it goes like this:

"After kung fu prodigy Li Fong relocates to New York City, he attracts unwanted attention from a local karate champion and embarks on a journey to enter the ultimate karate competition with the help of Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso."

As of this writing, the film holds a 54% critics’ approval on Rotten Tomatoes based on 96 reviews. It’s still better than the worst films in the franchise, which include The Karate Kid Part II (1986), The Karate Kid Part III (1989), and The Next Karate Kid (1994).
