Karate Kid: Legends, the sixth installment in the popular The Karate Kid franchise, is doing well at the box office. If we look at its earnings, the creators might soon see the movie turning profitable. It was made on a budget of around $45 million, and it has already earned $47 million as of this writing, according to Box Office Mojo.

The film stars Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, who reprised their roles from previous movies and are probably the main attraction for the audience. Story-wise, you can expect similar themes, but this time, our new karate kid is being trained by two mentors, unlike previous films.

If we keep Karate Kid: Legends aside for a moment, the rest of the films have made $675 million against their reported $85.5 million budget. The 2010 remake of the first film is still on top in the franchise, with $359 million earned against its $40 million budget.

As of this writing, the film is the 23rd highest-grossing film of the year, which is likely to change as more updates on the global box office arrive. The film's current competition is Until Dawn, One of Them Days, and Den of Thieves: Pantera. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith is also there, as it was re-released recently and earned $55.5 million.

If Karate Kid: Legends can surpass Den of Thieves: Pantera, then the film will become the 19th highest-grossing film of the year, and the next competition will be the films that have earned between $60 million and $70 million. Only a couple of films are in this room: The King of Kings and The Monkey, with $66 million and $68 million, respectively. Interestingly, the former is about God, and the latter is about the Devil.

We expect the film to do some good business, around $100 million, which will then turn it profitable and land it near The Accountant 2, which has earned $101 million globally. This ought to be the last competitor for Karate Kid: Legends, as we don't believe it will do business close to the 2010 remake.

Assuming that it manages to cross that bar, earning over $359 million, it will be competing with Sinners, which has earned $350 million so far.

Speaking about the top commercial successes at the box office, it's the Chinese bomb Ne Zha 2 that exploded at the box office and has earned around $1.9 billion currently. Following it is A Minecraft Movie, which is close to a billion dollars, but the momentum has slowed down.

The rest of the films include Lilo & Stitch with $610 million, Captain America: Brave New World with $415 million, Thunderbolts* with $369 million, and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning with $353 million. While BNW has gone stagnant already, the rest of the mentioned films are still actively competing with each other.
