The upcoming F1 movie brings Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a once-revered Formula One driver who hopes to revive his career nearly thirty years after an accident kept him away from the racetrack. However, he is way past his glory years and seeks redemption. Along the way, he has to face the harsh reality and make a truce with a young prodigy who doesn't see him eye to eye.

The first trailer for the F1 movie was released back on March 14, 2025. It offered a look into Sonny's simple life as a former Formula One driver while a voiceover listed everything that once stopped him from being "the best that ever was." The voice comes from Sonny's former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), who now owns an APXGP team. Unlike others, Ruben sees Sonny's enormous potential.

Ruben believes that Sonny can still bounce back and be the best in the game. So, he wants Sonny to team up with Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), an up-and-coming rookie who maybe needs a word of wisdom. However, that doesn't sit well with this young man, who does not appreciate the old head joining him out of nowhere.

The first trailer mainly focused on the friction between these two as they bumped heads on the racecourse. It was far more about the external manifestation of their discourse, whether on the ground or behind the scenes. The race director, Kate (Kerry Condon), appeared briefly in hopes of mending their relationship.

The new trailer for the F1 movie focuses far more on Sonny's internal life, trying to reveal why he is returning after all.

The F1 movie is going to be about a high-octane race and the adrenaline rush, but judging from the new trailer, it will also be about Sonny's psychological journey throughout this process. He is returning to the racetrack at the request of his old pal. However, Kate begs him to consider whether that's the only reason he is there. As the race director, she wants him to introspect and be clear about his motivations. He cannot be a lone wolf when he is on the racecourse. He is supposed to be part of the team.

The new F1 movie trailer shows Joshua trying to make peace with Sonny's company

Much like Sonny, Joshua struggles to be a team player for his own reasons. Although a rookie, Joshua is a prodigy. So, he doesn't want to be told what to do and believes Sonny expects him to do the same. Unlike others, he is not on board with Sonny's return. He doesn't want Sonny to think he will bow down and do as he is told. So, F1 is not just a battle of muscle and stamina; it's also of the egos of these two strong-willed men.

Will they pass the test? We will know on June 27, 2025, when the film hits the theaters.
