Last year, we got a sequel to War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) called Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Even if you haven't seen these films, it is easy to imagine what they are about. The title of the 2017 film suggests a war, and the title of the latest suggests that Apes have clearly won.
The film is likely to be the first in a new trilogy in the franchise spanning over five decades, and ends with a perfect room for the story to continue. Given that this is a standalone sequel, it is not hard to understand what is going on in there. But it would really help if you watched the rest of the films first.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ends with a conversation between the film's two leads, Owen Teague's Noa and Freya Allan's Mae (who is addressed as Nova by the apes, too). The latter is heading to a secret facility, which is a clear indication that something is brewing. Humans and apes are already at war now, even though it hasn't been announced yet.
Apes are trying to rebuild themselves with dignity

The final conversation between Mae and Noa is a tense one where, after all the events that happened in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the latter has realized that the humans are corrupted. Even though the brilliant Kevin Durand plays the villain Proximus Caesar, it is really the humans who are the real antagonists.
Noa agrees to this when he tells Mae that:
"Proximus was right. Humans will never give up. Not until you claim all things for yourselves."
We can easily see how disappointed the intelligent ape Noa is in this scene. And he has all the reasons to be.
Humans are just jealous that they lost to what they deemed an inferior kind

It is just after this dialogue that we see Mae's true colors, though she was always a fishy one. Add the fact that she was hiding a gun behind her, and it makes her a character worth our hate. After Noa spills this bitter truth about humans, her expression changes, and she says:
"It was was ours. That silo was a human place with human things and human ideas. It was not meant for apes."
She is talking about this vault that Proximus was after, and he knew the contents hidden in it. After this conversation, she heads towards this facility where humans are living underground. But she has recovered an important piece of technology, which will help the rest of the humans connect.
What does all of this mean?

Mother Earth didn't give us a manual that says that it is humans who are supposed to rule here. But it seems like humans have forgotten this in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Now, given that there are possibly two more films in the series, humans might try to dominate the apes. However, that will make the humans true antagonists if they do so, because there is still a chance that apes and humans can coexist on Earth. Only if humans can keep their egos aside!
If not, then we know that human isn't an intelligent being. We hope to see apes and humans "together strong."
