Kylian Mbappé, footballer for the La Liga club Real Madrid, was discharged from the hospital on Thursday, June 19, 2025, after being admitted for acute gastroenteritis, according to The Guardian.
He also missed the Club World Cup draw with Al-Hilal, which happened on Wednesday night, as he was suffering from a fever. The match had, however, ended in a 1–1 draw. His illness makes it unclear whether he will be able to play in the month-long tournament in the US.
As per schedule, his team, Madrid, is scheduled to play against Pachuca in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
Kylian Mbappé discharged from hospital
On Thursday, the news about Mbappé was out, saying that he was undergoing 'tests' and 'treatments' for the illness, as per The New York Post. It was later announced that he had returned to the base camp. This is what the statement from Real Madrid's website reads:
''Kylian Mbappé was discharged from the hospital this afternoon and has returned to the training camp. Mbappé will continue receiving specific medical treatment and will gradually return to team activity.''
The Real Madrid coach, Xabi Alonso, also shared a statement. He said:
''He’s been in rough shape with a virus, so we have to keep an eye on him.''
He further added that he's unsure about Kylian's participation in the next game.
On Wednesday, during Real Madrid’s match against Al-Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup group stage, Kylian's absence due to his ailment was filled by the Spanish footballer, Gonzalo García, who gave Real Madrid the only goal in the 34th minute. Despite the pressure of filling in such a huge name, his performance stood out.
Gonzalo was appreciated not only for the goal he scored, but also for his movements and composure. After the game, former Real Madrid striker Joselu also appreciated his performance publicly.
In the current group stage standings of the FIFA Club World Cup, Real Madrid is in second place and RB Salzburg is in first place and this puts pressure on Madrid to win their next match.
Mbappé is one of the most talked-about footballers to play this year in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. This year’s tournament is especially significant as it follows the first edition of a new, expanded format, which will include 32 teams, bringing the best clubs from all continents, with the event lasting for one full month, with group stages followed by knockout rounds.
Although Kylian's presence is crucial for Real Madrid in the upcoming matches, his participation is yet to be confirmed.
