A new movie based on the popular kids' show, Dora the Explorer, is coming called Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado. We got a trailer a few days ago, where this standalone sequel has replaced Isabel Merced, who played the titular Dora in Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019), with Samantha Lorraine.
Lorraine appeared in You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. It is a coming-of-age drama film where she played half-Jewish and half-Hispanic Lydia Rodriguez Katz. She also appeared in three episodes of The Walking Dead: World Beyond as a younger version of Hope, a character Alexa Mansour portrays in it.
Other than Samantha, the film features Jacob Rodriguez, Mariana Garzón Toro, Acston Luca Porto, and more. Alberto Belli has directed the movie based on a screenplay by JT Billings.
The film's synopsis (via IMDb) reads,
"Dora, Diego, and their new friends brave the treacherous Amazonian jungle, racing to uncover the legendary Sol Dorado treasure before villainous forces claim its immense power."
As for the release, it is arriving on Nickelodeon and Paramount+ on July 2, 2025.
Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado trailer breakdown
The Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado trailer begins with Samantha Lorraine's Dora asking the viewers in her traditional way, "Where do we go next?"
The trailer then finally begins with her expedition for the treasure as she looks at the map, which cuts to this one scene where we can see the raiders, who are seemingly after the same treasure. The truth about this treasure is revealed when Dora is reading the following sentence from a book,
"The last Inca emperor left behind a gold bracelet as the key to Sol Dorado."
She then finds the bracelet, which is in a stone-like box, that attaches to her wrist within seconds.
After that, the Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado trailer shows those raiders spotting her wearing this bracelet, and now they are trying to stop her. A chase in what seems like an amusement park begins while the chasing vehicles scatter the visitors there.
Following this, we hear a narrator expanding upon what's going on there. The enchanted bracelet Dora is wearing is being sought by Camila the Crusader (Daniella Pineda). She doesn't appear to be the character Camilla, who is Dora's friend in the cartoon. Alongside this, new Camila are some treasure-hunting mercenaries chasing Dora and her group.
The voice then goes on to explain that they are after this legendary sun hidden in a jungle, which can grant people a wish. This is similar to Dragon Balls, only that seven of them need to be collected for a wish.
Dora's expedition then continues in the jungle, where we can see her sliding down a cave and later walking through the rain in that forest. This is also where we see our protagonist seemingly losing her way as she underestimates herself.
However, we have been seeing Dora since our childhood, and certainly, she will eventually find a way through this adventure in Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado, too.
