Lewis Pullman in talks to join father Bill Pullman in 'Spaceballs' sequel at Amazon: What we know so far

Lewis Pullman is in advanced talks to join the cast of the upcoming Spaceballs sequel, where he would star alongside his father, Bill Pullman.

Bill Pullman will reprise his iconic role of Lone Starr from the original 1987 Mel Brooks sci-fi spoof, per a report in The Hollywood Reporter. According to multiple reports, Lewis Pullman is expected to play a new character named Starburst, who is the son of Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and Queen Vespa (Daphne Zuniga, also expected to return).

The announcement was made by the legendary comedian, Mel Brooks, on social media. He will be reprising his role as Yogurt in the upcoming sequel. He took to X on June 12, 2025, to share the news, and joked in the clip:

“After 40 years, we asked 'What do the fans want?' But instead, we're making this movie. May the Schwartz be with you!”

All we know about the cast of Spaceballs 2

Spaceballs 2, which is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios, will also see Rick Moranis reprising his role as Dark Helmet. The film will also cast Keke Palmer and Josh Gad. Mel Brooks, who is currently 98 years old, will be reprising his role as Yogurt.

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon has described its forthcoming project as:

“While the title, plot details, and rest of cast are being kept under wraps, the film has been described by those who have not yet read the script as ‘A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two’ but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.”

The sequel will arrive in theaters in 2027. It will be directed by Josh Greenbaum and the script is written by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez and Josh Gad. The film will be produced by Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody along with Greenbaum, Gad, and Brooks.

Lewis Pullman, who will be seen alongside his father Bill Pullman in Spaceballs 2 told The Hollywood Reporter in a latest interview that his parents have always been “supportive.” He said:

“And it’s been a really incredible kind of blossoming for me, and we have always been such a close-knit family, but it’s great to be able to confide in my pops about certain issues or certain questions.”

“For a long time, I was like, I’m gonna do this on my own and was very stubborn, and I’m so glad that I got over whatever that was because now it’s such a gift to be able to share different experiences with my dad and get advice from him.”

According to a report in CBR, Lewis was previously seen with his father in The Ballad of Lefty Brown, which was released in 2017. Spaceballs 2 will mark their second film together. Spaceballs takes its inspiration from the iconic Star Wars franchise and other classics.

The story of the original Spaceballs centres on the villainous Dark Helmet and President Skroob, who plot to steal the breathable air from the peaceful planet Druidia. However, their plan is foiled by the hero Lone Starr, his loyal companion Barf, and Princess Vespa of Druidia.
