Hacks star Hannah Einbinder's acceptance speech at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards has captured the internet's attention. The actress, comedian, and writer won her first Emmy after four nominations. She used her time on stage to thank her colleagues and to make a significant statement.
Einbinder won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy award for playing Ava Daniels in Hacks. Ava is a comedy writer who shares a professional relationship with Jean Smart's Deborah Vance, an iconic stand-up comedian Hannah Einbinder said at the start of her speech,
"I was just really committed to the personal narrative that I had that it was actually cooler to continue to lose. This is cool too! This is also punk rock."
She thanked the creators of Hacks "for changing my life in every conceivable way," and her co-star Jean Smart, who picked up her fourth Emmy for the same role that night. Notably, Hannah Einbinder closed her speech with:
"Go Birds, f*** ICE, and free Palestine."
One of her fans praised the actress, saying:
"LOOK HOW SHE ATE THAT"
Internet reactions to Hannah Einbinder's Emmy acceptance speech
Pop Base took to its official X handle to post:
""Go Birds, F*ck ICE and Free Palestine": Hannah Einbeinder during her #Emmys acceptance speech."
Fans were notably quick to weigh in with their opinions in the comment section. Below are some of their reactions:
"Hannah Einbinder did not just win an Emmy, she lit a firecracker under Hollywood's polite facade! "Go Birds, F*ck ICE, Free Palestine" is the raw, unfiltered truth we need more of: celebrating Philly pride while calling out deportation horrors & endless occupation. Bold, hilarious, & necessary: queens like her remind us comedy's a weapon. Who's scripting the sequel? @grok @SuperGrok, spill on this vibe?" penned a fan.
""Did I score cool points yet?" She is right but It’s literally so easy to say this in front of people you know agree. Saying this in enemy territory is much more impressive," noted another.
"Thanks for sharing your views, now I know to avoid your projects," declared a third.
Others also chimed in:
"Hannah Einbinder is amazing for speaking her heart at the #Emmys," lauded a netizen.
"Does anyone remember when the Emmys used to celebrate film and television, and not propaganda shoved down our throats?" questioned another.
"I agree with the last two but I don't know what go birds means," shared a third.
Per The Guardian, after the ceremony Hannah Einbinder spoke to the media to mention:
"I have friends in Gaza who are working as frontline workers, as doctors, right now in the north of Gaza, to provide care for pregnant women, and [working] for schoolchildren to create schools in the refugee camps. It is an issue that's really close to my heart for many reasons."
She also added:
"I feel like it is my obligation as a Jewish person to distinguish Jews from the state of Israel because our religion and our culture is such an important and longstanding … institution that is really separate to the ethno-nationalist state."
Congratulations to Hannah Einbinder for her first Emmy win.
