PGA golfer Jake Knapp is mourning his girlfriend of two years, Makena White. According to an announcement made on her official Instagram account by a friend, Makena passed away earlier this week. She is already deeply missed by her friends and family, including her two dogs, Nelly and Fergie.
“Hi everyone - this is Makena's friend, writing with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week. She is already so deeply missed by her Dad, her family, her friends, and of course by Nelly and Fergie.”
The cause of Makena’s death wasn't stated. However, she was remembered as someone with so much laughter, joy, and energy.
“Makena was one of a kind. She had this rare way of making you feel special, and her huge heart was always overflowing with love. To be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos as we tried to keep up with her travel schedule.”
Fans of the deceased were encouraged to make donations to Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic, where her mother received Alzheimer’s care. They were also urged to support the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund, an organization that supports cancer research.
“If you would like to honour Makena's memory, donations to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund would mean a lot. We love you, Mak. We'll miss you always, and we'll be looking for you in the sunset,” the announcement concluded with a yellow heart emoji.

Makena White was a medical sales representative who grew up in Canada and attended McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
According to her Instagram profile, she and Jake met in 2023 and began their relationship shortly after. They went Instagram official in 2024.
“Does it still count as a hard launch if NBC saw it first?” Makena White captioned a photo of the couple together.
The medical sales rep wasn't shy in expressing her affection for her boyfriend. Her last post on Instagram was a sweet message to Jake Knapp, celebrating two years together and expressing her hope of making more memories.
“Year 2 of first fairway hugs & watching you live out your dreams. Second season in the books - forever grateful to be on this walk with you, here's to many, many, many more! I looooove you, sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud.”
Makena White passed away at 28, just before the commencement of the Ryder Cup on Friday, September 6. Jake Knapp has not yet spoken publicly about Makena’s passing.
