Zoe Saldana may be done saving the galaxy, but she’s still got superhero fever, and this time, it’s aimed straight at Metropolis. The Marvel icon, best known for bringing Gamora to life in Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, is officially hyped for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman. In a recent chat, Saldana gushed about the project like a proud friend who knows a cinematic mic drop event is approaching.
Saldana has worked side-by-side with Gunn in Marvel’s most chaotic cosmic adventures, and so, when she says Superman is in good hands, we listen. Speaking to ScreenRant, the actress praised the upcoming DC flick as she said:
I can't wait for Superman. I think we're all sort of anticipating. He's so talented and I'm pretty sure that he's going to bring a lot of heart, but also a lot of humor and levity to this beautiful legacy of a story.
The actress has previously opened up on the possibilities of her working with Gunn again in the DCU as she told ComicBook.com in 2024,
"Yes, I do, I do. I love the superhero universe of any sort. I have sons that are obsessed with comic books right now, and superheroes, so for me to be a part of projects that they will get to watch for the next 10, 15 years of their whole lives, it's a dream for me... If it never gets to happen, or if it happens with other filmmakers, and not James Gunn, or if it happens again with James Gunn, I would be so grateful."
Zoe Saldana's collaboration with James Gunn in the MCU
Zoe Saldana and James Gunn didn’t just build a corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; they carved out its heart, dyed it green, and gave it a sword. From the moment James Gunn cast Saldana as Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, Saldana delivered a fierce, layered, and endlessly compelling performance that is one of the best female characters in the MCU.
Through three Guardians films and a handful of crossovers, Zoe Saldana's Gamora became the emotional compass of the team, equal parts no-nonsense space assassin and tragic antihero. Gunn’s direction gave her character depth, pain, and humor, and Saldana brought it all to life with unwavering intensity even when buried under hours of green makeup.
Off-screen, their bond is just as meaningful. When Disney temporarily fired Gunn in 2018, Zoe Saldana stood by him, joining the rest of the Guardians cast in an open letter of support. As Gunn transitions to the DCU, it would certainly be interesting to see these two powerhouses come together for another adventure, whatever universe it may be in.
The Guardians of the Galaxy films are available to stream on Disney+.
