Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently spoke about his desire to reset the MCU after Avengers: Secret Wars. He plans to cast new actors to play some older MCU characters. It will include Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, previously played by Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, respectively, as recently reported by Variety.
Since that announcement, Marvel fans have been wondering if the studio will cast new actors to play any other roles after Avengers: Secret Wars. Fans usually have a special relationship with the stars who have played these roles. That is likely what brought Downey Jr. back to the fray, even if as a different character.
The Oscar-winning star will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. However, his older MCU character, Iron Man, is expected to be recast after the latter project. That means some other characters might also be played by different actors, considering Kevin Feige's reported franchise reset plans.
Marvel insider Alex Perez addressed this topic during his recent Q&A session for the Cosmic Circus. When asked which character won't be recast after Secret Wars, Perez said (as per the transcript).
"Scarlet Witch, for starters."
What do we know about Elizabeth Olsen's return to the MCU? Will she be in Avengers: Secret Wars?

Elizabeth Olsen previously played Scarlet Witch, the anti-heroic character, in the Disney+ miniseries, WandaVision.
It was introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since then, she has also been a part of films such as Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). However, she is not part of the long list of cast for Avengers: Doomsday revealed by Marvel. There have not been any official reports of her return to the MCU either.
In September 2024, Olsen addressed the topic of return to the MCU during an interview with radio outle,t FM104. She said:
“It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well, and I think I have been lucky that when I started, I was used well within Age of Ultron. And then, I think people didn’t know what to do with me for a second there.”
She further added:
"If there’s a good way to use her, I’m always happy to come back, however [if] they can make that make sense.”
Since then, Olsen has spoken about the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and said that it is important for her. However, she has been focused on working on non-Marvel projects that reflect her own taste.
Currently, there is no concrete update on whether or when the actress will return to the comic book universe or whether she will be a part of the Avengers: Secret Wars cast. Still, according to Alex Perez, her character won't be recast after Avengers: Secret Wars.

While that is true, Kevin Feige has some ambitious plans for the MCU, post the 2027 release. In line with that, he said:
“We’re utilizing that [story] not just to round out the stories we’ve been telling post-‘Endgame,’ just as importantly — and you can look at the ‘Secret Wars’ comics for where that takes you — it very, very much sets us up for the future. ‘Endgame,’ literally, was about endings. ‘Secret Wars’ is about is about beginnings.”
Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to be released in 2027.
