David Goyer recently spoke with Variety about Marvel's halted Blade project, which was supposed to star Mahershala Ali. The two-time Oscar-winning actor is one of the leads in the latest installment of the Jurassic Park franchise, but there hasn't been any concrete update about his introduction in a standalone MCU project or whether it will enter production at all.
While the studio has taken it off its release slate, Goyer is interested in being creatively involved in this project. During a conversation with Variety, he said,
“I might consider it because I love the character, and it sort of started my superhero career. Even though I’m now considered a DC guy, I started as a Marvel guy. I would consider it, it would be fun to return to that world. That beingsaid, I’m pretty much otherwise 99% done with superheroes. I love this stuff. I watch all the movies, but I’ve just done so much in the world. But yeah, I would consider it, just for old time’s sake.”
For the uninitiated, Goyer wrote the three Blade movies that starred Wesley Snipes as the sword-swinging hero. Later, he contributed to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. He wrote the screenplay for Batman Begins (2005) and the story for The Dark Knight. Later, he worked on Zack Snyder's DCEU movies like Man of Steel (2013).
With these projects, Goyer made a successful pivot from working on Marvel to DC projects. Still, if Marvel asked him to work on the new Blade movie, he says he might consider coming back. This is not the first time he has shared his interest in this Mahershala Ali-led project.
David Goyer has reportedly been interested in working on the new Blade movies for a while

David Goyer reveals that he got in touch with folks at Disney and Marvel to work on the new Blade movie, but the plans didn't work out. During a red carpet event on May 29, Goyer spoke about it with Variety. He said,
“It’s so funny, about eight months ago — when, not the latest hiccup hit, but like the prior hiccup — I had so many people that would say to me, ‘Dude, would you get in there on “Blade?” Would you just get in there?,’ whether it be friends or fans or people on social media.”
He further added,
“And I wasn’t even really thinking about it, but then I had my agent call Marvel and say, ‘Do you guys need any help?’ And they said, ‘We love you, but we think we’ve cracked it now, and we’re in a good place.’ And then the latest thing happened. And so no, they haven’t contacted me,” Goyer said."
Based on his comments, Goyer has been invested in reinvigorating this project for a while. His response does not offer any update about the movie either. Marvel still doesn't have the Blade adaptation on their release schedule. However, Goyer's words offer hope to the fans, who want it to be in safe hands.
Many viewers believe that Wesley Snipes' portrayal is unparalleled, and Goyer's contribution has been crucial to shaping it in that way. That's why his involvement in the Mahershala Ali starrer might be a step in the right direction.
