Michelle Randolph circles lead role in horror thriller Malibu, by Paranormal Activity 2 director

Helmer Tod Williams is in negotiations with actor Michelle Randolph for his next, as per reports at The Hollywood Reporter.

Williams, who is recognized for his directorial work in films such as Paranormal Activity 2, is out to make a horror thriller named Malibu, where he is interested in casting Randolph in the lead.

Michelle Randolph, who is known for her work in The Resort (2021), 1923 (2022-2023), and Landman (2024-present), is also set to appear in Scream 7, the seventh film of the popular horror franchise, Scream.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, director Tod Williams is in negotiations to cast Michelle Randolph as the leading star in his upcoming horror thriller, Malibu.

As per the outlet, Malibu is not made on a high budget. Spooky Pictures will be supporting the film, with producers Steven Schneider and Roy Lee on board. Steven Schneider and Tod Williams will be collaborating once again on this film, after their association in Paranormal Activity 2.

Spooky Pictures has also produced horror films in the past, including the Colin and Cameron Cairnes directorial Late Night with the Devil (2023). They have also produced the thriller film of 2023, Strange Darling. It was helmed by JT Mollner.

Studio Screen Gems, which have been associated with films including Friends with Benefit (2011), Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016), Insidious: The Red Door (2016), Heart Eyes (2025), etc., will be handling the distribution of the film.

No plot or further cast details have been revealed so far. However, one can assume from the title that the horror thriller is likely to take place in the Malibu region.

The only information revealed so far about the plot is that the story belongs to the subgenre of subterranean horror. So, we can expect to witness underground entities lurking out in the open from way below the ground.

Both the production and distribution companies have long been associated with the horror and thriller genres. The same goes for the helmer Tod Williams as well as Michelle Randolph. So, a group of experts in the genre is collaborating to make this film look like a perfect collaboration.

If at all Michelle Randolph is confirmed to star in the project, we will witness the actor yet again in a horror flick, after Scream 7 and House of the Witch (2017). Looking at the actor's familiarity with the genre, there might be a good chance that we might get to see Randolph in the film.

The shooting of Malibu is expected to commence at the end of this year, 2025.
