Milly Alcock is playing the titular superhero in the upcoming Supergirl, set to be released on June 26, 2026. Directed by Craig Gillespie, this film will be the next addition to Chapter One: Gods and Monsters of the DCU. Toward the end of James Gunn's Superman, Alcock makes a surprise appearance as the superhero while being completely sloshed.
Her being drunk references a joke in the universe that she enjoys partying. So, let us learn more about her appearance in the recently released film and how it sets the stage for the DCU's future.

Milly Alcock appears as Supergirl in Superman
In Superman, Clark Kent cares for his pet dog, Krypto, who also comes from Krypton and possesses some abilities similar to those of the superhero. Toward the end of the film, we see Milly Alcock making her appearance as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, who is Superman's cousin.
She arrives at the Fortress of Solitude to pick up her dog Krypto and appears to be drunk. Man of Steel had agreed to take care of her dog since Supergirl was busy partying on several planets. Before leaving, she looks at her cousin and says, "thanks b*tch."
The film's protagonist then explains to his robot that people from Krypton can become intoxicated on planets with red suns. A red sun reduces their powers, making them more like humans. However, their strength increases under a yellow sun, such as on planets like Earth. This explains why Kara was drunk and wasted toward the end of the film.
These scenes lay the groundwork for DCU's future, as we now know that the dog Krypto will also appear in Supergirl. In the comic book series Woman of Tomorrow, the protagonist is introduced in a bar while she is drunk and feels aimless. She wanted to save her cousin Superman, but later realizes that he has become even greater on planet Earth. This further amplifies her feelings of inferiority compared to her cousin. Therefore, we can expect something similar in the upcoming Supergirl film if the filmmakers follow the source material.
Supergirl is directed by Craig Gillespie, with Ana Nogueira serving as the writer. The second film in DCU will be produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran. While many plot details remain undisclosed, we know that the film will follow the titular protagonist as she seeks revenge on an interplanetary quest. Its cast members include,
- Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl
- Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills
- Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll
- David Krumholtz as Zor-El
- Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze
- Jason Momoa as Lobo
Milly Alcock gained worldwide fame for her role in HBO's fantasy series House of the Dragon, where she portrayed a younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen.
Warner Bros. Pictures will release the movie on June 26, 2026.
