Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise is currently busy with the promotions for Final Reckoning, which will arrive in the United States on May 23. Throughout the press tour, he has often been asked about being "the last movie star." During the New York City premiere of The Final Reckoning, Cruise told Entertainment Tonight,
“I don’t want to be. There’s so many other talented actors out there and I want to see them crush it.”
Cruise further spoke highly of Michael B. Jordan, who is currently basking in the warm reception for the period horror flick, Sinners. Much like the critics, Cruise also admires Jordan's work and sees him in the batch of new movie stars. He also hinted that he is more than happy to work with Jordan in a movie.
“I’m a huge fan of his. That film ‘Sinners’ is amazing. We’re going to make a movie together.”
This is not the first time the two stars have spoken highly about each other.
Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise and Sinners star Michael B. Jordan are fans of each other's work
Ryan Coogler's Sinners recently crossed the $300 million mark at the worldwide box office and is currently in the second spot at the domestic box office. Set in the 1930s, it follows Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers, Stack and Smoke, who return to their Southern hometown after earning a fortune in Chicago. It has earned the Coogler-Jordan duo more fans, and Tom Cruise seems to be the recent addition to this list.
On 28 April, the Mission: Impossible star shared a photo of a ticket to Sinners, standing in front of the film's poster. He shared it on his social media with a caption:
"Congratulations Ryan, Michael, and to the entire cast and crew. Must see in a cinema and stay through the end credits!"
Michael B. Jordan shared this photo on his Instagram story with a mind-blown emoji and a note,
“nah this crazy …”
Shortly after, Jordan attended the London premiere of Cruise's latest Mission: Impossible film. At the time, he shared this beautiful moment in his social media post.
"I was too young to see the first Mission Impossible in the theater, but now I get a chance to watch the final one… in IMAX!!!! Much love @tomcruise"
Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise speaks highly of Michael B. Jordan and his collaborations with Ryan Coogler
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning feels like the end of an era to Tom Cruise fans, who have been on this journey with him since his first appearance in 1996 as Ethan Hunt. So, many of them wonder if he is going to be the last movie star. However, Cruise said he "didn't want to be" the last movie star and seemingly passed the torch to younger actors like Michael B. Jordan.
In a recent conversation with People magazine, Cruise had nothing but praise for Jordan and his work with Ryan Coogler.
"He is enormously talented, and what he and [Ryan] Coogler do together... he's a great actor. He's dedicated to his brand. I really respect him. Respect Coogler, I love that film. I love the films that they make. It's brilliant, you know, big cinema. I admire what they do and I love to see people do well in life. That is a thing that I work very hard to do — all I can to help people and see them do well."
He further added,
"Filmmakers, actors — people know my door's always open, so I'm very excited about what they're creating and it'salways inspiring. It goes back and forth."
The Mission: Impossible star's comments do not offer concrete details about his collaboration with Jordan. However, they offer hope to the fans of both to see them sharing the screen in the near future.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is slated to join Sinners at the US theaters on May 23, 2025.
